Vintage at Southbank: Food

One of the best features of the Vintage at Southbank festival was the food village.  Of course I would say that.  But they had everything!  Fresh seafood...crepes...jerk chicken...greek wraps...the list is endless.  What I HAD to try was Annie Mae's Mac & Cheese.  What whaaaaa?  That's right.  Mac & Cheese with options of different toppings.  I went for the 'Kanye Western' which had a topping of hot dog, BBQ sauce and fresh chives (I opted out of the BBQ sauce).  It.  Was.  Awesome.  Word on the street is that the specialise in classics from the deep South.  I would like to sample it all...they are a travelling act so keep an eye on them!

I followed this delicious dish up with a visit to On Cafe which I was originally drawn to because of the plethora of amazing looking (and named) macrons, which included Black Sesame, Jasmine and Peach flavours.  What kept me at the booth was their delicious looking ice cream.  And when I learned you could get ice cream with a macron on top, I wasn't about to go anywhere.  So I chose vanilla ice cream with a coffee & charcoal macron.  Part of me doesn't even want to talk about the macron because I know I can't immediately have another one.  But jeez was it amazing.

On Cafe also appears to have a cooking school.  So go learn how to make these for me!  Many thanks.

Any of you ever had an interesting flavor macron?  Tell me.  Let me live vicariously  :)

The Perfect Snog

The frozen yogurt craze has hit London a bit later than in the States but what is important is that it has made it.  There are 'fro yo' shops popping up all over this fair city but my fav is Snog (not just because I love the name).

At Snog, they don't mess around with flavours of yogurt.  You can choose from natural, green tea and chocolate.  It is made with fresh non-fat organic yogurt with probiotics and skimmed milk, and is naturally sweetened using Agave nectar.  So's totally good for you and I will use that excuse as often as possible.

The fun of Snog comes with the toppings.  Ooooooooh the toppings!  They are split into categories (and keep in mind, some are seasonal):

Fruity: Strawberry, Raspberry, Blackberry, Blueberry, Mango, Pineapple, Kiwi, Banana, Dates, Pomegranate, Watermelon

Naughty: Chocolate brownie, Jumbo cookie, Oreo cookies, Dark chocolate nibs, Milk chocolate hearts, White chocolate stars

Crunchy: Pistachios, Almonds, Coconut, Granola, Super foods mix

Exotic: Agave nectar, Red bean paste, Mochi (Japanese rice cake)

Hot: Espresso shot, Apple crumble, Berry compote, Pears with cinnamon

It's all good.  I can't stress that enough.  You are not going to be disappointed by anything you get here.  It's simple and fresh.  My 'go to' treat?  A natural yogurt smoothie with strawberry, coconut and milk chocolate hearts.  A lovely treat!

They even have a cookbook now which I am dying to try out!

I heart Guerilla Burgers.

It has come to my attention that I haven't been talking about burgers half as much as I should be.  Though I am not yet back in London, the best of the 'Burger Seasons' has begun and it would be against my best judgement if I didn't give a delicious shout out to what I consider to be the best burger joint in town, Guerilla Burgers.

All I needed to hear when reading a little review in a magazine on a few new London restaurants was 'burgers and margaritas'.  Shut up.  If I could get away with eating and drinking one thing for the rest of my life without being accused of being a fat drunk would be burgers and margaritas.  And the first time I made my way into the quirky cool doors of Guerilla Burgers, I totally fell in love.

The music is great (but loud, get over it).  The servers are so friendly you forget at times that they aren't actually old friends of yours.  The atmosphere is chilled out.  And the food and drinks...ohhhhh the food and drinks  :)  There is an amazing list of burgers which you can choose either beef, turkey or chicken burgers, as well as some vegetarian options that could change a carnivore in a hot minute.  My personal fav?  Cheddar BLT Burger with sweet potato fries and MARGARITA JUG.  And if you're feeling saucy?  There is a brownie sundae situation that is nothing to turn your nose up at...

And they don't just do burgers, so those of you who have a different taste, there are hot dogs, fish tacos and great salads.  Listen, just get down there and have a great night out.  If it's a date or a big group of friends, you're going to have a great time, I promise.
