You have to assume that when Karl Lagerfeld invites you to a hybrid garden party and fashion show on the grounds of Versailles, it will be a rather opulent affair. The Palace itself is the poster child for over-the-top glamour. And one might even go so far as to say 'maybe this is the one place at which Karl cannot compete with such majesty'. One MIGHT say that and if one DID, they would be a fool. So, you are in the gardens of Versailles ready to expect the unexpected and the unexpected is exactly what you thought it would be. That's the hysterical nature of Karl's Chanel. You never know what you are going to see, hear or feel. But when it is all over, you would have expected nothing else at all. None of us would ever have guessed that yesterday's show would feature a perfectly even mix of Chanel classics, Marie Antoinette-sized lavishness and some kind of hip Brooklynite mentality, a casualness paired with the epitome of luxury. Or maybe King Karl is really just missing Lily Allen and her 'f**k it, throw some trainers on' mentality...in his own way :)
Long live the King.
