Waking up today felt like Christmas. Except it's a bit elitist and you don't get to keep any of the pretty things you see. But it is ever so exciting! For the next week, we will be clogging traffic, saying even sillier things than usual and using the city as our catwalk. WELCOME TO NEW YORK FASHION WEEK! I very quickly went from coming to terms with the fact I may not be attending many shows (if any) to suddenly having a schedule that I am now finding slightly frightening...in the most sartorial way.
It's been a very long day. On top of this whole Fashion Week hoopla, there are classes, projects due, internships, attempts at sleeping and so on. It's been a great day, though. I had the huge pleasure of being second row at the first show to kick off the week at Lincoln Center, Nicholas K. I wasn't sure what to expect but I did know I like what they bring to the table. 'Zombie Boy' was there. As was Joe Zee. And some of my fav bloggers. I got very excited...super...fast.
I'm obsessed. I may say that a lot but I am was truly in love with this collection. The hair, make-up, shoes, clothing, music...everything was perfect. The models had this sort of living dead look that isn't done justice in the pictures. It was haunting in the best possible way and the models seemed to form this kind of gang that I immediately was wishing upon all wishes to be a part of...I want to move to the Wild West and live in whatever dark world this collection evokes. Please. (It has nothing to do with the sibling designer duo's dog that checked out the runway during the finale...ok, maybe a little.)
I wish this post was a bit more eloquent and could more successfully illustrate who incredibly excited this show made me and the entire experience of getting to be so involved in New York Fashion Week. But being fabulous can take it out of you sometimes. As I joked with our Dean of Fashion from Parsons, Simon Collins, when I bumped into him at the Cynthia Rowley show, at a certain point you no longer know where you are but only know to move your feet in the direction your phone is telling you. (His schedule was terrifying to look at...mine turned into child's play.) If today was anything to go by, I can't wait for it to be fall again. Lots more to come...watch this space!
