Satan's Whiskers (and other Halloween cocktails)

When it's time for ghosts and ghouls (and snow apparently), it is also time for some 'witches brew' to keep us warm and remind us we're alive.  Here are some spirits to get you in the Halloween spirit: SATAN'S WHISKERS

  • ½ oz gin
  • ½ oz Grand Marnier
  • ½ oz sweet vermouth
  • ½ oz dry vermouth
  • ½ oz orange juice
  • Dash of orange bitters
Shake over ice and strain into a chilled glass
HALLOWEEN SUNSET

  • 3 ounces tangerine juice
  • 1 1/2 ounces white rum
  • 3/4 ounce grenadine
  • Ice cubes

Combine juice and rum in a tall glass filled with ice. Top with grenadine. Serve.  (This cocktail is beautifully two-toned when first poured; afterward, the ingredients start to mix together into an intense orange color.)

SINISTER CIDER
  • Fine black sanding sugar
  • 1 lady apple, chopped
  • 1/2 lime, cut into wedges
  • 1 ounce maple syrup
  • 1 ounce apple cider
  • 2 ounces vodka
  • Ice
  • Club soda
  • 1 thin crosswise slice lady apple, for garnish
Moisten the rim of a martini glass with water. Place sanding sugar in a saucer and dip rim of glass in sanding sugar to coat; set aside.
In a cocktail shaker, muddle together apple cubes and lime wedges. Add syrup, cider, and vodka; fill with ice. Cover and shake until well combined. Strain into prepared martini glass; top with club soda. Garnish with apple slice and serve.
BLOODY BLACKCURRANT PUNCH
  • 1 1/4 cups brandy
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 4 cups black currant nectar
  • 1 1/2 cups cold seltzer

Stir brandy and sugar in a large bowl. Add nectar; stir to combine. Refrigerate until cold, about 1 hour. Punch can be refrigerated in an airtight container up to 3 days. Add seltzer just before serving.

GALL-OF-GOAT FLOAT
It's a root beer float...serve root beer out of a cauldron surrounded by dry ice into a mug with vanilla ice cream scooped in.  I want.
Have a great day, halloweenies!
