Yesterday I was reading about Forever 21 taking a holographic runway show around the world and I was rather intrigued. And it's a tough one to get my head around...I think it's quite a cool idea, a great way to get fashion shows to the masses and an excellent PR stunt. But, to me, one of the best parts of getting the chance to see a fashion show is seeing the garments in person on some unnaturally tall glammed-up models. I tried to find some video of the Forever 21 show from its other destinations and found an actual render of the show from the digital company who created it...and I'm not too crazy about it. I mean, yay technology! But it seems a bit...dated? I mean, people disappearing into a star explosion and all that?
While doing a bit of research, however, I came across a Burberry holographic runway show from Beijing and was super impressed. (There is a short clip on top and the full show underneath which, if you have 18 minutes, it totally worth watching.)
Maybe more of an art installation than what could be considered a runway show but cool none the less.
